You Should…

Thank you guys all for your extremely kind words, and all the love. These past couple days have been really hard. My friend who survived had surgery on her aorta yesterday and is still in a drug induced coma. She broke almost everything (including ribs, and spine) and had severe damage to her organs. It’s pretty touch and go.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck (the vehicle in which I knew everyone) is a close friends father. I am so emotional for her and her sisters loss. Nobody should ever have to lose a parent this way.

Which is why today you should live your life like normal, just do a couple extra things along the way.

-Call your parents. Tell them you love them.

This is my Momma, and although I love her dearly, I rarely ever say it.

-Buckle your seat belts. I used to be careless, and essentially stupid. I never wore a seatbelt. I’m pretty anal about it now, and hope everyone else I know is as well.

-Make amends. Don’t go to bed angry. Don’t end a conversation angry. It’s sad that it takes a tragedy to remind us of this, but if you are arguing with anyone over something minor, deal with it so that there is no possibility it is the last thing you say to that person.

-Take a minute of your day and forget about all the negative, and focus on all the amazing things in your life. Acknowledge your family, friends, nature, city; whatever it is that makes your life complete. Appreciate the little things.

Or like beautiful scenery

Or the love of your life

Or your blog friends! I appreciate each and every one of you, more then you will ever know.

I have been really preoccupied with life, and since there is no internet at work I read blogs off my iPhone. I am reading all of your blogs, but am sucking big time at commenting. Please know I am still reading!

I took a week long break from blogging to clear my head, gather my thoughts, and essentially just because I needed a break.

I was excited to get back to blogging this morning as I love connecting with all of you guys. However my morning started on the worst foot possible as I found out a serious car accident killed two people I know, and the third passenger, a girl I used to work with, is in the hospital with incredibly serious injuries. Injuries I can’t even wrap my head around.

I was talking to a friend today about how so very few people I have been close with have passed away, yet all of them occured in the month of August. Tomorrow is actually the 6 year anniversary of the death of one of my close friends. I know that things always get better, and this too shall pass, however; this is not fair.

If you are someone who prays, I beg that you keep my friend in your prayers. I promise I will be back to regular blogging soon!

Good People

Happy Friday! My posting schedule has been such a mess with this job, I just got home form work (where I don’t have internet). Please bear with me 🙂

Last weekend Chris and our friend Ted went hiking up Mount Cheam, which is a gorgeous mountain in our area with some pretty breathtaking views.

Sadly, I was working and missed out on this! I made him promise to take me one day.

Anyways, while hiking Chris lost his knife. The knife had more sentimental value then anything, so he was pretty bummed out about it. Ted suggested he leave a note in the parking lot with his phone number, just in case someone found it.

Low and behold, a woman called having found his knife. Chris was so thankful, and since she lived near the town I work in, I picked it up this morning from her. I also made sure to bring her a gift card to Starbucks, to thank her for her honesty and helpfulness.

It’s the small things in life that really count. Finding something that belongs to someone else, be it a knife, money, a wallet, a jacket….whatever it may be; returning it is always the best option if possible. Who hasn’t lost something that to someone else may seem meaningless or small, but is devastating when missing to you?

I have lost two pairs of shoes (I know,who does that right?), my wallet, and so many other small things. I’m kind of like a child and need reminders to pick up my belongings 🙂 If any of these things had been returned to me, I would have been the happiest girl on earth.

I think there are certain things it is acceptable not to try and return; if I ever found $5 on the side of the road, that’s mine! But anything that is someones belongings I would make a solid effort to return.

So a big thank you to the woman who returned Chris’ knife!

You know you live in Farmtown…

I believe I have stated before that the town we now live in is a small farmtown. We actually live on a hay farm.

Well there are quite a few things I have been noticing lately that have me thinking, “Only in Chilliwack”.

Only in Chilliwack would you find a drive-thru corn stand.

Only in Chilliwack would three people on horses pass me while I was running.

Only in Chilliwack would your boyfriend come home with a new gun, for hiking trips. (Which I am actually very thankful for as we encountered a bear on our hike this weekend and I no longer feel safe!)

Only in Chilliwack would you drive past a goat farm every day. These guys seriously make me smile 🙂

Lastly, you know you live in Chilliwack when you buy allll these blueberries at a drive through blueberry stand. For five dollars. I love my life.

I think this goes to my When to speak up and when to shut up post. This was a post from when I was working with a woman at work who was making some “unhealthy healthy choices” and talking about them…nonstop. I got some great feedback, but definitely wrote the post in the heat of the moment, and probably should have taken the time to explain the situation just a bit better.

In May I made a list of 101 things I would like to do in 1001 days. Although not a new idea in the blog world, I have received so many emails and comments about my list from people wanting to start there own, I’d say that has been the most helpful.

Surprise Success

All of my Friday Love or Happy Friday posts have received a lot of hits. I’m not sure if that is just because people like to slack at work and read blogs more on Fridays? But typically I get the most hits and comments on Fridays!

Most Proud

My Three Years of Love post is the post I am most proud of. This post was written on Chris’ and my 3 year anniversary (although we don’t celebrate!). I believe I am so proud of this post, because we have had a seriously stressful past few months with the move, and living apart for a month during transition. It was tough, and there was a fair amount of arguing, but every word of that post is still true. I still love him with every ounce of my being!

Self Care

A late Wednesday post as I just got off work, and somehow made my hour drive back home despite how insanely tired I am. At my work, hospital visits are a normal occurence and last nights lasted until 3am.

The city I work in is a bit….troubled. There are many gangs, violence is prevalent, and drugs and street life are rampant. This makes for some interesting incidents. Last night I saw the aftermath of a gun and knife fight, which included a number of adults and children were hurt in the process. There was a lot of blood, a lot of screaming, and a lot of police. Being a bit of a small town girl, it was pretty scary and pretty sad. From some seasoned veterans in this city, this was a pretty mild incident.

Anywho, despite all of this, I feel good about my job and am just planning on taking a nap asap since I am so tired. That being said, I thought I’d brainstorm some self care activities.

In my line of work, we are taught over and over again the importance of self care. Self care is using your down time to recognize any feelings of stress, burn out, or any other negative feelings and find activities which will alleviate those feelings. For example exercise, reading, or on a day like today: napping.

Some of my favorite self care activities include:


-window shopping

-watching TV (this is something I never do! We actually don’t even have cable)


-chatting to girlfriends


So, my question is…what would you do for self care? What else should I give a go? How would you unwind after a stressful day?

Nature love?

Happy Monday everyone! I know, happy Monday is a total oxymoron, but I try.

Summer finally decided to grace us with it’s presence this weekend, so I am ecstatic it’s not raining today again! I finally have some color, and got to don my bathing suit for the first time this year. What’s there to be upset about? Nothing!

On Saturday we decided to get out and enjoy a big hike. There is so much great hiking and outdoors exploring to be done in this city, and we have barely even started!

Chris insists on wearing this hat every time we go hiking. Sigh.

The hike took about 3 hours, and the first half hour was so hard I thought I was going to puke. Thankfully, it leveled out a bit and was beautiful and scenic the rest of the way.

I love hiking, being outdoors, and enjoying nature. However, I don’t know about where you live, but we have to seriously be careful about bears. We saw a good amount of bear poop on our hike, which is far less then comforting. And then there’s the bugs, but then  I’m just complaining 😉

This hike was well worth it, as the scenery of the river and then the lake was so, so beautiful. I will definitely do this hike again. For me, I really only enjoy hiking if there is a destination of sorts, versus just a long tough walk in the woods.

Well, I’m off to work until Wednesday morning, have a great few days!!
